The Lone Star Conference announced changes to the 2021 baseball and softball schedules following the NCAA Division II Management and Presidents Council announcement to eliminate the super-regional round for the 2021 Division II postseason in both sports.
The conference baseball schedule will now feature an open week May 7-9 before the start of the LSC championship. The two-week conference tournament featuring eight teams will now begin with the opening round May 14-15 at on-campus sites. The winner of each opening round series will advance to a double-elimination tournament played May 20-21-22.
The winner of the postseason tournament will be recognized as the LSC Tournament Champion and receive the conference’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA postseason scheduled to begin May 27 with regional round competition.
Softball also adds an open week with make-up dates reserved for May 7-9 before its conference championship which will now commence May 13-14-15. The 10-team single-elimination tournament will be hosted at the No. 1 seed.
The winner of the postseason championship will be named LSC Tournament Champion and receive the league’s automatic qualifier to the Division II postseason scheduled to begin May 19 with the regional round.
The DII regional format change comes following a reduced bracket for both sports in 2021, with baseball bid allocations between four and six teams, while softball will have six teams per region.
