ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern football student-athlete Jalyn Gramstad has announced his intention to join the University of Nebraska football program, utilizing his final season of eligibility to join the Huskers’ quarterback room and jumpstart a coaching career.
“We are so excited for Jalyn as he has the opportunity to pursue playing FBS Power Five football,” Red Raider football head coach Matt McCarty said. “His growth and development through his Northwestern experience has been a privilege to be a part of. Our promise to each player is to invest in them where they are at and prepare them for what is next. In this case, it happens to be playing football in the Big Ten.”
The 2023 NAIA Player of the Year and 2022 national champion joins Nebraska with the goal of pursuing a coaching opportunity, obtaining a master’s degree, and strengthening the Huskers’ quarterback depth next season.
“I am beyond grateful for my four years at Northwestern College,” commented Gramstad. “We have achieved great team success, and I know that the Raider culture of excellence has prepared me well for the opportunities ahead. Thank you to my teammates, coaches, professors and staff who have invested in me. I’ve grown as a football player, a student, and most importantly as a man of God.”
Graduating from Northwestern with a degree in business administration, Gramstad went 24-1 as the Raiders’ starting quarterback. He also guided Northwestern to back-to-back NAIA National Championship appearances, including a title in 2022. Gramstad ends his Red Raider career as the program’s single season leader in total offense (4,453; 2023) and total touchdowns (48; 2022).
