This week’s Nebraska college Players of the Week are Jessica Deterding, CUNE, and Kanon Koster, UNK.
Jessica Deterding, junior, Concordia (Eustis-Farnam)
Deterding set a new school record in the pentathlon and did so in dramatic fashion. She finished second in the GPAC championship, but still had a chance to make a new CUNE mark and it came down to the final event, the 800m. Deterding needed to run it in less than 2:30 to surpass the point total of 3,401 set in 2014. Deterding clocked in at 2:29.97.
Kanon Koster, freshman, Nebraksa-Kearney (Kearney)
Koster averaged 25.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as the Lopers split for the week. The freshman put in 26 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in a win over Lincoln. Koster also topped the 400-point mark, an achievement only eight UNK freshman have accomplished and he is the first in 15 years to do so.
