KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference has announced the 2020 Heart of America Men’s Soccer All-Conference honorees and the winners of the major postseason awards. All conference postseason awards are voted on by each head coach in the league.
Central Methodist finished the season at the top of the regular season standings for the third consecutive season, finishing league play with a perfect 12-0 record. The two-time defending national champions currently lead the NAIA with seven shutouts on the season. Head coach Alex Nichols was selected by his peers as the Heart Coach of the Year for the third straight season
Luka Glusevic, a senior midfielder from Missouri Valley, received the coveted Heart Player of the Year award. Glusevic also was recognized as the Heart Co-Offensive Player of the Year, splitting the award with sophomore midfielder Mathieu Ecourtemer of MidAmerica Nazarene. Glusevic finished the season with six goals, seven assists, and 19 points while Ecourtemer recorded eight goals, two assists, and 18 points.
Tom Irion, a freshman defender from Central Methodist, was named the Heart Defensive Player of the Year and Heart Freshman of the year after a stellar season with the Eagles. Yu Sasaki, a junior forward from Mount Mercy, was honored as the Heart Newcomer of the Year after a strong conference debut with the Mustangs.
